EESC Public hearing – European Long-Term Symposium
9:00 – 16:00 CET, Brussels
The ECO section contributes, in a partnership with Confrontations Europe, to the event “European Long-Term Symposium”. In its fifth edition, it will be focused on the role of long-term investment in the recovery of the EU economy following the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the implementation of the EU Green Deal. A diversity of stakeholders will intervene, including representatives of civil society organisations, private investors from financial and non-financial sector, and EU institutions representatives.
The President of the EESC, Ms Christa Schweng, and the President of the ECO Section, Mr Stefano Palmieri, will participate as speakers.
5th Plenary of the Fit for Future Platform & RegHub workshop
10:00 – 12:30 CET, Brussels
The members of the Fit for Future Platform (F4F) will gather on 5 December 2022 in Brussels to adopt the platform’s opinions from the 2022 Work Programme.
Among them are two opinions drafted by CoR members and representatives in the platform: The opinion on the Governments Interoperability Strategy, drafted by Anne Karjalainen (PES/SE), and the opinion on the implementation of the end-of-life vehicles Directive, drafted by Mark Speich (EPP, DE). Both opinions have benefitted from in-depth consultations carried out by the CoR Network of Regional Hubs (RegHub) in 2022. The follow-up of the F4F opinions, as well as the preparation of future consultations will be in the focus of the RegHub workshop, taking place back-to-back with the F4F plenary meeting on 5 and 6 December.

EESC Conference – Accelerating transitions to build open strategic autonomy for Europe

This Conference jointly organised by the three Observatories of the European Economic and Social Committee, the Digital Transition and Single Market Observatory (DSMO), the Labour Market Observatory (LMO) and the Sustainable Development Observatory (SDO), aims to explore what strategic autonomy should mean, how could civil society help to accelerate transition to an open strategic autonomy of Europe, and how to ensure coherence between EU policies in the short and medium term.

Annual Conference on EU Trade and Investment Law
7 – 9 December, Brussels
The aim of this annual conference is to provide legal practitioners with an update on the current challenges facing the European Union with some of its key trading partners.
It will give participants the opportunity to exchange with high-level experts and acquire a better understanding of topical issues in international trade and investment law. Relevant recent developments in EU and WTO case law will also be tackled.
The European Innovation Council will host its flagship event on 7 – 8 December 2022. This event will offer a unique opportunity to network. Agenda available here.
Academic conference on the 30th Anniversary of the single market
The European Commission’s Directorate General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW) and the Czech Presidency of the EU are organising an academic conference on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the single market. The conference takes place on 7 December 2022 in Prague in hybrid format. The conference brings together top researchers from academia and policy makers from EU and national institutions to present research findings and policy insights related to the single market.

EESC Public Hearing – The European Packaging Sector

This event has a twofold objective: reinforce the message of the EESC opinion “Making packaging a safe, affordable and eco-friendly industry” and to provide immediate feedback on the Revision of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive that will have been published a couple of days before the event. The debate will concentrate on the industrial sectorial aspect of packaging, especially the challenges faced by the sector. Register here.
